Flash Drive Not Detected? Solution is Here

There can be several reasons for Flash Drives not being detected by your computer.
First your computer is not able to provide drivers for your Flash Drive. Now, for your information, you do not need to install any drivers from outside if you are using Windows 2000 SP4,Windows XP or Windows Vista as they come with native support for these devices.
If you are thinking that you are already using one of these versions of windows still your computer is not able to mount your Flash Drive. Don't worry,that's why I am writing this article. Just read on...
If your are not on one of these Windows version then your problem can be easily resolved by just installing the drivers which you get on a disc that comes with your Flash Drive. If you did not receive any disc,try checking out the manufacturer's website and it should be there for sure. If still no luck,then try contacting me....

Remember, everything is explained here assuming that you are on Windows XP but need not worry as other Windows like Vista should work the same way.

There are several possible reasons for Flash Drives not mounting on your computer. Mentioned below are few of them:

Drive Letter Conflict

Flash Drive not formatted properly

Windows require some patch or update
Problem with the USB port
Physical connection problem

So, let's start with the first one, that is, drive letter conflict.

Now, this can be the problem when you are trying to use your Flash Drive in a network environment. The best possible solution to this problem is to change the drive letter assigned to Flash Drive. This can be done by going to Disk Management and right clicking on Removable Drive and then clicking on Change Drive Letter. You can select any drive letter which is not assigned by windows to any drive or partition in any computer inside a network. Also, before changing the drive letter it's recommended to check if your Flash Drive is showing in Device Manager under Disk Drives. If it's not there that problem can be something else.

If changing Drive Letters does not help and drive is showing in Device Manager then probably you should try disconnecting that computer from the network by taking out the network cable or if you are inside a corporate environment then try contacting you IT deptt to know the drive letter not being used anywhere.

Let's talk about the second scenario. If the drive is not formatted properly that means that it's mounting up and being detected by the computer as well. It's just would be giving a message to Format the Drive when trying to access it. This can happen if the File System has corrupted on Flash Drive or its not formatted in the supported format. For example, if you are trying to use a Flash Drive formatted in Ext2 file system in Windows Computer. The only solution to this problem is to format the drive in the supported format. For windows you should always format the drive in Fat or Fat32 and in Macintosh you should use MSDOS as this will also be supported by Windows computer. Please note formatting the Drive will ERASE all data. So, if you have any important data kindly try using a different computer to see if drive works or contact a Data Recovery company. Also, if you are not able to format the Flash Drive, please try using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. It's made by HP but works on generally all Flash Drives.

Now let's talk about problems that can happen because of any updates or patches. No matter if you have the latest service pack for your Vista or XP computer. Still, there are few updates or rather say patches which need to be installed if you face any such problem.

As per Microsoft the patch will fix the following issues:

" When the computer resumes from a suspend state or from a hibernation state, the computer stops responding. Additionally, you receive a "0x9F" stop message on a blue screen.

" The computer takes a long time to resume from a suspend state or from a hibernation state.

" The computer takes a long time to resume from a suspend state or from a hibernation state when you use a VIA controller.

" The computer stops responding when you use an Authentic USB fingerprint reader. Additionally, you receive a "0xFE" Stop error on a blue screen or a "0x9F" Stop error on a blue screen.

" The computer stops responding when you use a USB Bluetooth audio device.

" The computer takes a long time to resume from a suspend state or from a hibernation state when you use an Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) controller.

" The computer stops responding when you remove a USB device. Additionally, you receive a "0xFE" Stop error on a blue screen.

" When a computer resumes from a suspend state or from a hibernation state multiple times, you receive a "0xFE" Stop error on a blue screen.

So go and install this even if you are facing a different problem related to but not similar to this.

Another patch for XP Service Pack 1 is also include at the bottom.

There are chances of problems with USB ports as well which happens rarely but the possibility is still there. The best way to identify is to attach any other USB device on the same port and check if that device works or not. For Example, USB Printer. Also of you are using a Desktop and inserting the drive in some front USB port then try using some port at the back.

Here , I would like to add one more point. If you have a high capacity drive like 8 GB and you are trying to use it on an old computer then due to inadequate power support the drive may not mount properly.

Sometimes, even if the icon for Removable disc appears under My Computer,the drive may not work properly as the complete capacity will not be mounted in case of inadequate power. You can check this by right clicking on Removable Disc and then clicking on Properties. If one this window, both free and used space is showing 0 KB then this can be the possible problem. In order to fix any issues related to inadequate power supply you can purchase USB Power Hub from any computer store and attach it to the USB port. What it does is that it will convert the low power supplied by USB port to little high power.

But, remember this problem generally happens in case of old computers. Before purchasing USB power hub, you can also try the back port of your computer if you are on Desktop.

And Last but not the Least, improper physical connection is the general cause for Drives not getting detected. This may happen if USB port or connector on Flash Drive has bent or physically damaged due to which drive is not able to make a contact with pins on USB port. In this case, you should also look the inside area of port or connector and if any damage found please take it to some local technician of Drive manufacturer to get it fix.

You would probably need to first clean them with 409 and remove all the handles before painting. Make sure that there is an open window when doing this and use an exhaust fan or something similar. Furthermore you would have to live the windows overnight the next day in order to vent the house.

Error 80004005 is perhaps one of the most annoying things ever to be flashed on your computer screen. Most computer errors are very specific to various software's or operations. How to Clean Up and Restore an Old Finish Well Enough to Impress a Professional Restorer Like Myself

I'm sure you've seen it before, a nice looking piece of furniture but the finish just looks kind of dirty and dry. Maybe it's even flaking off or "alligatored" (that's when the old finish looks kind of crackled and "crazed"). Well it's not always necessary to strip and refinish a piece to get it looking beautiful again. You can do what we do as professionals and "restore" or refurbish the finish. This is also the best way to leave that nice mellow aged look which old furniture has and most collectors look for. The main difference between refinishing (which involves chemical stripping) and restoring a finish is that you leave the age or what's called the "patina" on the piece. In my opinion an older piece of furniture looks best when you leave the aged surface on the wood.

The first thing to do is clean the finish using some warm water with a mild soap such as Murphy's Oil Soap or dish detergent. Water is generally not bad for furniture as long as you don't soak it. If it gets too wet, you risk softening the glues used on the veneers and joints. When the glue "fails" the joints will open and the veneer will lift off and then you have a whole other job at hand (which I talk about in another article). There's no real secret to cleaning the finish. Just use a nice soft cloth, something like an old tee shirt material, dip it in the soapy water and wipe away! Depending on how dirty the piece is, you may want to have a few cloths to change to a fresh one as it gets dirty.

Once you are satisfied with how clean the surface is you can determine if there is enough finish still on the wood or if you want to refurbish the old finish with a new one. If the finish looks fine, the best thing to do is apply a good quality paste wax as instructed on the product label. Buff the wax a few times to get a nice shine and you're done! Now, if the finish is thin, old and dull looking, the best fix is to apply thinned coats of shellac with a soft pad. Cheesecloth works well. Take a 1 foot square piece and fold the corners in a few times and make a smooth pad shape. A plastic squeeze bottle works well to dispense a small tablespoon or 2 of shellac onto the pad. Wipe it on the furniture somewhat like you a dusting the piece. This technique is referred to as "padding" on a finish. Re-wet the cheesecloth with more shellac as needed and pad the whole piece. The shellac dries fairly quickly within a few minutes, but don't reapply over where you already padded until at least 10 minutes. Start at the top of the piece and methodically work your way down to the base or feet.

A few applications of padded shellac will build up a nice looking finish. Let it dry 4 - 6 hours (or until the next day) and then go and apply the paste wax and buff it to a shine. Sometimes the new shellac surface may feel a bit "nibby" from dust that may have settled in it. If this is the case, take a fine, high grit (600) sand paper and gently sand the surfaces to smooth. Then apply the paste wax and enjoy the beautiful renewed finish!

Maybe you are looking for a set of deep cycle batteries to replace your old ones. Maybe you want to find a free deep cycle battery to try desulfating it so it is near new and then try to sell it. Some people are even getting a large deep cycle battery and removing all the good cells so they can sell them for renewable energy systems.

A home renewable energy system using wind or solar needs anywhere from 12 volts to 48 volts. Each cell from a deep cycle battery is about 2 volts, so it takes 6 cells for every 12 volt section. If you were to buy these cells new, then they cost between 0 - 0 each. A small 12 volt 650 amp hour battery setup would cost about ,800 for the forklift battery cells. You could use golf cart batteries at about each and 220 amp hours each. It would take 6 of them to do it and it would cost about 0.

Here is the kicker, though. A deep cycle battery cell from a fork lift battery lasts about 4 times as long as a golf cart battery. My first pair of forklift batteries that I got for free happened to be Yuasa batteries, but all kinds are available. What I discovered is that usually most cells in the battery are still pretty good. Usually it is one or two bad cells. Most places just have their batteries picked up for recycling when the battery doesn't make it though a 8 hour shift. These two batteries to the left had all good cells except 3 of them. There are 12 cells in each (these are 24 volt, 700 amphour), so that gives me 21 good cells.

So, if you're selling these cells, you can make up to ,100 profit. If you keep them for your own use (which is what I did), then you could make 3 banks of 12 volts at 600 amp hours each, or 12 volts at 1800 amp hours total. I say 600 amp hours instead of 700 because even after checking fluid levels and using my homemade desulfator, the amp hour capacity never gets up to brand new levels. But you can usually get 70% to 90% capacity, especially if you remove the bad cells. In the above example, you will use 18 of the cells total, leaving 3 good ones. You will probably have to just recycle those last 3 cells.

To get the batteries free, just call around to anyplace with a warehouse that uses forklifts. The first two in the picture above were picked up at the local post office main hub. You could just go through the yellow pages. Ask if they use electric forklifts, if so, do they plan on replacing their batteries in the near future. If you have a pickup truck, I would stick with the 12 or 24 volt ones. You can tell them that you can take them off their hands for free and that you will sign any environmental forms that they require.

There is another way to get forklift batteries but it costs a little money. Just look in the phone book and find the local forklift company. Almost all of them sell new batteries and deliver them as well. But they will also come and pickup old forklift batteries to recycle. They always have several sitting around. On Vancouver Island in Canada, the local company gets about 3 cents per pound from the local recycler. I can go to the forklift company and pick the best of the used ones and pay by the pound. A 24 volt like the one above weighs about 1,100 pounds or so. I can move those with a engine hoist and my V6 nissan pickup. Any bigger and you need other arrangements. They will also deliver the batteries to my home and plop them wherever I like. At 3 cents a pound, I could pay for the two batteries in the above picture. Then they would charge about per hour for the delivery. Let's say, worse case, it cost 2 hours in labor, that is 6 for both batteries. If I sell individual cells in 12 volt groups, then I could sell 18 of them (3 cells were bad) and make ,800. That gives me ,600 profit. Not bad.

Road transport is growing, world wide due to the unreliability of railway companies. In many regions, road transport has supplanted rail transport.
Trucking associations form the backbone of the industry, in countries such as the United States.

Notwithstanding the escalating costs related to trucking, such as fuel and maintenance. Companies consider road transport to be the most viable, mode, to transport their goods to various regions.

Due to demand in this industry many individuals consider a transport or trucking business, as a means of self-employment. A word of caution though, to those budding trucking contractors, be vigilant of all those corporations offering haulage contracts. The industry is cut throat and difficult.Many haulage contracts turn out to be disasters!

Trucking Contracts - Costing And Budgeting

A bank will gladly finance a truck, on the strength of a contract, but only if the truck repayments can either be guaranteed by the corporate sponsor, or if the revenue derived from contract is three times more than the truck repayment.

Insurance, such as Public Liability Insurance and Goods-in-Transit is compulsory, and would in most cases be enshrined in a contract. Budget appropriately.

Even brand new trucks will loose value, and require regular maintenance. Many smaller transport operators don't create reserves, such as a "Truck Replacement Fund". An amount equal to 20% of the cost of the truck should be invested with such a fund, annually. The fund can be accessed after five years, to either use as a deposit on a new truck, or refurbish an existing one.

For used truck purchases, a Maintenance Fund should be created. Regular wear-and-tear, leads to unexpected breakdowns. Some banks can tailor such funds specifically for the truckers needs.

A monthly cost breakdown with the Replacement and Maintenance Fund as first and second priority respectively is made. Is then followed by the truck repayments, insurance, salaries (drivers and owner), fuel costs, and toll fees. If the rate payable by the corporate sponsor cannot cover these minimum costs, do not consider the contract.

Transport Rates:

Will the corporate sponsor, pay a rate per mile, rate per ton, or rate per kg? Rate per miles, will not be profitable if the trucker covers short distances. A 14-ton truck covering short distances needs a rate per ton, to at least break even. If it's a huge truck, covering long distances, the three components recommended above will have to be factored into the pricing.

Will the corporate sponsor pay thirty days after invoice? If one invoice is generated for a thirty-day period, it effectively means that the transport contractor will have to wait 60days for settlement.

A phasing in system can be negotiated, to ease the cash flow constraints on the truck operator. It works as follows:

If an invoice for a transport of an operator is 0 000, for a month, the corporation can pay $ 70 000, COD, (70%) and allocate 000(30%) to 30 days. The following month the COD rate drops to 50%, and the operator is paid his 30-day portion of the invoice. 50% is deferred to 30 days. In the third month the COD rate drops to 30%, and the operator receives his 30day payment of 50%. After the fourth month the contractor would be completely in a 30days invoicing system. This method has been applied successfully, by our firm, but is dependent on the generosity of the corporate sponsor.

Trucking can be a financially rewarding business, but any entrepreneur considering this route should do thorough research about this industry, before contemplating a transport contract.Draw up a business plan, before you take the plunge.
